qathet Regional District’s (qRD) committee of the whole is recommending the regional board direct staff to provide the Texada Island Airport tenant leasing unit 101 with a letter that instructs them to not proceed with, or halt, any work at the airport on water well infrastructure until such time that the legality of the existence of the well is determined by provincial authorities.
A staff report states that in approximately 2005, the tenant had a water well drilled on airport lands and proceeded to install an operating well, a pump inside a qRD building and adjacent infrastructure to service the hangar.
In March 2022, the province changed guidelines for wells and any well used for non-domestic purposes must be licensed.
