1. February 5
Texada Island
Texada Island Police responded to an email fraud complaint. An email was received from a source claiming to be the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported that the recipient would receive a large sum of money if they responded. This was the second email fraud reported on Texada in the previous 10 days, both of which targeted seniors. RCMP remind everyone not to respond to these emails, and instead visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre website www.phonebusters.com to find out information on protection from current scams.
2. February 9
2300 block Lang Bay Road
Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. A tanker truck with approximately 12,000 litres of fuel was stolen from that location, driven a short distance, and found flipped over near Eagle River Bridge. 3. February 10
Marine Avenue near Nootka Street
Police stopped a vehicle after it had overtaken a vehicle on a solid double yellow line. Police spoke with the 53-year-old driver of the vehicle who showed signs of impairment. He provided a breath sample which registered a “fail.” He was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
