City of Powell River council adopted an asset management policy, which establishes guiding principles for the entire organization. The policy is one step in developing an asset management program, which addresses how the city will manage its $167 million of tangible capital assets, such as roads, water, wastewater and stormwater networks, buildings and recreational facilities.
Complex roof
Council awarded a contract to replace the Powell River Recreation Complex concourse roof to Nelson Roofing Ltd. for $125,691, excluding taxes, to be funded from the 2012 capital budget.
Taxes set
Council approved a revitalization tax exemption application from Catalyst Paper Corporation for major industry lands, allowed under the revitalization tax exemption program bylaw, for 2013 and 2014. The approval sets Catalyst’s property taxes at $2.25 million for those years.
Auxiliary fire service
Council passed two motions to sign licence-to-occupy agreements with the Wildwood Heights Firefighters Society and the Cranberry Lake Firefighters Club. The agreements allow the groups to use a portion of the Wildwood and Cranberry fire halls for recreation and social purposes. The agreements are for five years.
Hello
Council voted to sign on to the Hello Pledge and encouraged Powell River residents to foster friendliness and connectedness in the community by saying hello to the people they meet during the day.
