Council briefs January 18 2012

Bylaw sets electrical rates

City of Powell River council passed the initial readings of a bylaw that establishes the electrical rates for 50 and 100 AMP service at the south harbour. Since the entire bylaw was on the agenda, Mayor David Formosa declared a conflict of interest, because he owns a marina within city boundaries, and left the meeting for that portion of the agenda.

Zoning amendment

Council passed the initial readings of a zoning bylaw amendment that rezones 6375 King Avenue from NT, institutional, to RA1, residential agricultural. The property was rezoned in 2002 to permit a childcare facility to be operated from the premises. The owners are requesting the change back to the original designation since the facility is closing.

Parking spot

Council approved a request from Westview Massage Therapy to install a designated handicapped parking stall in front of its business at #5-4603 Marine Avenue at a cost not to exceed $600.
