To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of staff and the community, City of Powell River is asking anyone who has business inside city hall and other municipal facilities to wear a mask or face covering.

“Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry recently stated the expectation is that people will wear masks in all indoor public spaces,” stated chief administrative officer Russell Brewer in a media release. “As we’ve done throughout the pandemic, the city is following the orders and recommendations of Dr. Henry. Wearing a mask is an additional measure of protection that can help minimize transmission in our community.”

Signage requesting people to wear a mask has been posted at all public access points to city hall, the public works yard and Powell River Recreation Complex.

“At the recreation complex we are recommending that patrons wear a mask everywhere in the building,” stated manager of recreation Neil Pukesh. “The only times that they will not have to wear a mask is when they are participating in their recreation programs.”

The city recommends everyone wears a mask, watches their distance and washes their hands.
