At a meeting on September 1, City of Powell River Council voted to provide free public transportation for seniors on October 1, and allocate $2,000 from the mayor and council general council cash grants, to assist with the National Seniors Day celebration on October 1, as well as advertising and a meal program.
Councillor Jim Palm said seniors in the community are an ever-growing population, and that he felt very good about helping them out in this regard.
At the city committee of the whole meeting on August 30, seniors association director Dave Hodgins appeared to outline some of the activities, and to make a request for busing and financial assistance.
The event will run between 11 am and 3 pm.
