City of Powell River is seeking public input into its budgetary process.
On September 1, the city launched an online public survey called Balancing Act.
“Balancing Act is an excellent tool that allows citizens to share their thoughts on what services and programs matter most to them,” stated mayor Ron Woznow in a media release. “It also raises the public’s awareness and understanding of the budget process and financial operations of the city.”
Participants in the survey are presented with 20 service categories in the city’s 2024 budget, the release stated. By increasing or decreasing revenue and expenditures, the user arrives at a balanced budget that reflects their priorities and values. In addition, participants can add comments, which will be provided to city council.
Balancing Act can be found on the city’s website at powellriver.ca. The survey closes on October 2 at midnight. Printed copies are also available at city hall, Powell River Public Library, and the Powell River Recreation Complex, the release stated.
In addition to Balancing Act, a public engagement open house has been scheduled for September 28. The release stated that more details about the event will be announced shortly. The information collected through Balancing Act and the open house will be reported to council in October, according to the release.
The City Budget webpage includes the 2024 – 2028 financial plan and 2024 property tax timeline, and 2024 - 2028 City of Powell River budget documents, the release stated. Additional information, reports and documentation will be added as the budget and financial plan proceed, according to the release.
