System upgrade
City of Powell River councillors have approved a $103,000 expenditure for information system upgrades.
At the May 5 city council meeting, councillors unanimously endorsed the initiative, with $53,000 coming from the technology reserve and $50,000 from general unappropriated surplus.
Finance committee chair councillor George Doubt said the investment would upgrade the city’s electronic systems and get rid of various paper operations that were hard to keep track of, and difficult to organize between departments.
“This will be another step in digitizing the city’s activities,” said Doubt. “I do want to recognize the community finance advisory committee because this was one of the first recommendations the committee made, to improve the city’s digital assets and ability to process information in an economical and efficient way.”
Endorses audit
Councillors accepted City of Powell River 2021 audit results and communication.
Doubt said councillors had a thorough discussion about the audit report and findings of the auditor at the May 3 committee of the whole meeting.
“I understand from the chief financial officer that her department will be making a presentation at an upcoming meeting about the details and an analysis of the consolidated financial statements; we know those answers are forthcoming,” said Doubt. “As far as the audit findings report, I think they are good. We are getting a clean audit report with no concerns from the auditors and we should accept it.”
