City of Powell River has been granted $500,000 from the province for the de-stumping and landscaping of 20 acres of airport land.
At the May 4 city council meeting, councillor Trina Isakson said the project was to de-stump and landscape with the intention of developing it for industrial or commercial leased space.
“It’s quite exciting that we could potentially add to our tax base by providing more spaces for businesses in our community,” said Isakson.
Councillor Jim Palm said it was nice to see the funding from the province.
“This project will be well-received and we’ll be able to put that land to good use down the road at some point,” added Palm.
Isakson said the project is connected to the Powell River Airport master plan, so if people are curious about the city’s plans for the airport lands, the plan is in place.
“Developing some of that land for industrial and commercial space is part of that,” said Isakson.
She encouraged people to read the master plan, which is available on the city website at powellriver.ca.
At the April 27 city finance committee meeting, director of properties, development and communications Scott Randolph said he was appearing with good news.
