DRAFT READY: City of Powell River’s draft 2021 annual report has been published and will be available until June 16 for public input and comment. Copies can be found on the city’s website and hard copies will be available at city hall.

City of Powell River’s draft 2021 annual report is complete and is being made available for public inspection.

At the May 31 committee of the whole meeting, Scott Randolph, director of properties, development and communications, said the annual report is a legislated responsibility of the municipality to present to the public every year.

“The report focuses on the objectives and measures of the previous year, as well as those objectives and measures for the year to come,” said Randolph. “In the case of formulating this report, we were guided by the strategic plan and the vision and goals that are presented in the plan that was adopted in December 2019 by this council.”

Randolph said this year, the corporate strategic plan was taken to heart in formulating the annual report.

“You’ll see that it closely mirrors the reports that you have already been getting from the chief administrative officer on a quarterly basis on all of the work that is being done by staff,” said Randolph.

He said staff members are pleased with the look and feel of the document this year. After last year’s report, staff took a look around at other municipalities in the province and found other examples of annual reports, he added. A decision was made on the basis of an annual report published in Squamish.

“We found out the person who did the design work is from Powell River,” said Randolph. “We were able to contract them to do the desktop publishing and design work on this particular edition of the annual report. You’ll see in the financial impact section of my report that the cost was less than $1,800.”

Randolph said the annual report was reviewed by corporate officer Chris Jackson, who has reported that the draft does satisfy the legislative requirements under the Community Charter.

Randolph said the recommendation to the committee of the whole is that it endorse the draft annual report, make it available for public inspection, and refer it to the June 16 city council meeting where public submissions and questions will be considered.

“We are quite pleased with the graphic design work,” said Randolph. “We think it’s a really great format and we’ll be sticking with it for at least a couple of years, hopefully. We’re happy we were able to employ a local business to do it.”

Committee of the whole endorsed the report, with revisions, to make it available for public inspection, and referred it to the June 16 council meeting, where public submissions and questions will be considered.

According to Randolph’s report, the annual report will be made available on the city’s website at powellriver.ca and promoted through its social media tools. Hard copies will be available at city hall.
