BC Transit will resume regular service on bus routes starting September 1, going back to the pre-COVID-19 schedule.

At the August 18 City of Powell River committee of the whole meeting, councillors reviewed correspondence from Jean Medley regarding the reduced transit schedule.

In her correspondence, Medley stated that the reduced transit schedule had affected her life.

“I have a vision disability and rely on public transit to operate my gardening business, go to the gym, get groceries, et cetera,” stated Medley in her letter.

“My life depends on transit and it has been affected negatively with the reduced service. I would love to see transit service return to its regular schedule as soon as possible.”

When the item came up at the committee of the whole meeting, chief administrative officer Russell Brewer said Powell River’s transit system would be returning to the schedule in place prior to COVID-19.

Committee chair and councillor CaroleAnn Leishman said as could be seen from the correspondence, the schedule change had impacted Medley’s life by not having a regular transit schedule.

Mayor Dave Formosa said Medley is not the only person who has been affected by the schedule change.

“I’ve heard from a number of folks who have been having trouble getting back to work and it’s a real issue,” said Formosa. “It’s good to hear that BC Transit is stepping up again.”
