Extra sailings

BC Ferries has announced extra sailings on its major routes to handle the larger volume of holiday weekend travellers.

One extra round trip has been added between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale on the evening of Monday, October 12.

No additional sailings are planned for travel between Earls Cove and Saltery Bay, or between Westview and Little River, however.

“Thanksgiving long weekend is traditionally a busy weekend at BC Ferries, particularly with foot passengers as many university students will be returning home,” Corrine Storey, BC Ferries vice president of customer service, stated in a press release.

Foot-passenger overloads may occur during peak travel times, such as noon to 7 pm on October 12.

The majority of the extra sailings will be on routes between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. Over 44 sailings have been added for travel between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay from Thursday, October 8 to Tuesday, October 13. Additional trips have also been added during peak travel times between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay.

BC Ferries recommends travellers check its website for current conditions before heading to the terminals on the Thanksgiving long weekend. For customers with a specific sailing time in mind, reservations are recommended.
