BC Ferries has announced that in light of the disappointing news that BC Ferry Commission has given the go-ahead for the procurement of just four new major vessels, rather than the five requested, it will be hosting a new floating music festival off the Sunshine Coast this summer as a way to increase goodwill with customers.
And in keeping with the Coast’s deep-rooted arts culture, the event has been dubbed the “Faerie Festival” and will be taking place on the Queen of Surrey, which will be brought out of repair and docked in Langdale for the day and into the evening.
The day portion of the festival promises to be full of family-friendly fun, with the White Spot’s popular Clammy the Clam on hand to meet the kids. A scavenger hunt will have the kids walking (no running) from deck to deck searching out areas special to the ferry, such as the “roped-off washroom,” the one piece of equipment in the playroom that still functions and a row of seats completely blocked off with one person’s bags.
For the younger kids, Raffi tribute artist Staphi will have them singing along to hits completely reimagined for BC Ferries, such as, “Wait Down by the Bay,” “The More We Get Together and Wait,” and “The Baby Beluga You Just Missed on the Port Side of the Ship.”
After 6 p.m., the adults-only portion of the festival begins with more great Canadian tribute bands such as No Rush, The Tragic Trip and the Guess Who’s Not Going to Make Their Connection.
White Spot will again step up to the plate with clam chowder for everyone and customers will be allowed to purchase two alcoholic beverages each.
Should the Queen of Surrey’s loading ramp not be repaired by the time of the festival, there is a chance the event could be delayed or cancelled. Before heading to the event, please check “Faerie Current Conditions,” check follow @BCFerries #BCFaerieFest on X or phone 1-888-223-FYRE for further assistance.
The festival starts at 10 a.m. on the Saturday of the BC Day long weekend to ensure ample parking, and runs until late. With the overnight construction still under way at the Langdale Terminal, ferry officials decided the event can run all night. For ticket information visit ticketmaster.com.
Of course, none of this is true. April Fools!!
