It may be a bumpy start to the Remembrance Day long weekend.
Forecasted inclement weather has prompted BC Ferries to adjust the Horseshoe Bay-Sunshine Coast ferry route schedule.
A Friday afternoon release stated that due to forecasted adverse weather conditions this evening, and in order to "proactively position" their vessels for tonight and tomorrow, the ferries will run on an amended schedule:
- 6:30 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
- 7:30 p.m. departing Langdale
- 8:40 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
- 9:35 p.m. departing Langdale
- 10:55 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
Customers who have reservations on sailings will receive a revised time from BC Ferries customer service.
Environment Canada issued a wind warning to the Sunshine Coast at 4:48 a.m. this morning, stating that Southeasterly winds will start this evening, and advising residents to be careful of changing road conditions.
“A very strong Pacific frontal system will cross the BC south coast today and tonight. Ahead of the front, winds will rise to southeast 70 gusting to 90 km/h beginning this evening. The strongest winds will occur over areas along the Strait of Georgia,” said the alert.
The Sunshine Coast Weatherhood station is calling for up to 40 millimeters of rain over the next 24 hours.
The showers are predicted to taper off by mid-Saturday morning just in time for Remembrance Day ceremonies, before returning for the majority of Sunday.
