Assumption students hold science fair

Scientific method on display

Students at Assumption School gathered on Thursday, February 23, in the gym to show-off their scientific knowledge. Colourful poster boards filled the space, with grade five to grade nine students inviting parents and teachers to observe their findings.

Learning about the scientific method and data collection strategies, such as surveys and experiments, is an important part of student life. Graphs, diagrams and survey data were on display, as well as creativity with  poster board displays.

Some of the experiments were classic, such as creating a tornado in a bottle and measuring the speed, or growing crystals. Some tackled issues that humans are dealing with today, such as climate change and what accelerates it, female ADHD, and age and hand hygiene.

A popular experiment with many students involved their pet and what snacks they prefer.

Students not only conducted the experiments, and displayed their data, they could also explain their work. Teacher Angela Bennett organized and hosted the science fair. Students seemed to have a lot of fun creating and talking about what they had accomplished.
