Golden archer nails pair

Powell River's Wayne Seney claimed gold at the Canadian Archery Championships held recently in Edmonton.

Seney was among 109 shooters form across Canada participating in the event, and the local master struck gold in two events. Archers shot for four days and Seney's first medal was won in the two-day field event, where a variety of shots are required. The longest target in this category is 60 metres, with 24 targets each day and three arrows for each target.

Seney's second medal was won in the FITA (Federation International Target Archery) event, which includes 36 arrows at 90, 70, 50 and 30 metres.

Seney's archery resume is impressive. He has been the BC indoor champion for the last two years, has set a new shooting record for BC Indoors, and holds a Canadian record for 20 metres.

The marksman began archery in 1970 and shot for 10 years before taking time off. During his original stint, Seney was considered one of the top shooters in Canada, was shooting professionally, and was the top archer in BC. He returned to the scene two years ago and his two gold medals in Edmonton show he has come back with a vengeance.
