Shop in Powell River has everything for off road and on water

With spring in the air, some people’s thoughts turn to getting their motorcycles, ATVs and power boats out of storage, and Two Wheel Tech is ready to help with spring maintenance and new gear for the season.

“We have a great team of mechanics to get your powersport equipment in shape for summer, and a huge selection of accessories and apparel in stock,” says owner Derek Jantz. “Our store is kind of unassuming, but we fit a lot inside, including motocross riding gear, ATV and motorcycle accessories, and parts for your outboard motor.”

Derek is a Red Seal motorcycle technician who started Two Wheel Tech in 2012 after returning to Powell River. In the last decade, he has expanded from a small one-man shop to his current location on Highway 101 with three additional mechanics, two apprentices and two parts people.

“We’ve got a really great team, and we’re all from Powell River,” says Derek. “We believe in supporting our community, both through providing training and employment opportunities and keeping our purchasing power local as much as we can.”

That local focus has made Two Wheel Tech the go-to sales and service centre for the powersports community.

“We have to thank all our customers, both for continuing to use us for service and parts, but also for their understanding when things get busy,” says Derek. “Right now, we’ve got a two-week wait for service, and we know that will get longer as the weather gets warmer, so call us right away if you’re looking for a spring tune-up on your motorcycle or boat”

While Derek and his team are known for servicing motorcycles and off-road bikes and ATVs, a good portion of their business comes from marine outboards.

“We are a true powersport store, not just things with two wheels; just about anything Suzuki or Yamaha sells, we can bring in, service and maintain, from ATVs and motorcycles to outboards and generators,” explains Derek. “We have a good supply of parts for boat trailers, and we have Karavan boat trailers, utility trailers and ATV/side-by-side trailers in stock. We also have Marlon welded aluminum boats available. They have been very popular and I’m getting great feedback on their performance.”

Expanded parts and accessories

This year, Two Wheel Tech expanded its parts and accessories section, and now has a big selection of off-road apparel as well. “Apparel is something that hasn’t been readily available in Powell River before,” says Derek. “We have gear for men, women and youth – gloves, helmets, boots, jerseys, knee and elbow pads, knee braces – anything you need to be safe off-road. We have a lot of inventory on site, our prices are comparable, if not better, than anywhere online, and I will always try to price match. If we don’t have it in stock, I can usually bring it in from our suppliers overnight.”

Being Powell River’s Suzuki and Yamaha dealer is important to Derek and his staff.

“Everyone who works here loves being outdoors, off-road or on-road or on the water, and we all own Suzukis and Yamahas,” he says. “We stand by the quality of the products and we genuinely live this lifestyle. We’re not just guys who show up and work on these things; we’re really passionate about it, and that makes us great ambassadors.”

Derek is excited about the future for Two Wheel Tech.

“We’ve got some new things coming soon, like a new expansion on the way at the end of summer,” he says. “We’ve come a long way from my nonna’s back yard, and we’ll continue to grow with Powell River for many more years.”
