In November, Beyond Bliss will celebrate 22 years of serving Powell River residents’ spa and relaxation needs. The spa’s modern, comfortable approach made it a town favourite, leading to a five-year “Best Spa” award run, and owner Sheona Scott is committed to continuing that standard of excellence.
“We are a dedicated, caring and educated team,” says Sheona. “Spa treatments are not just about looking good; they are about self-care and wellness. In our busy world, it’s important to take time for yourself, and letting somebody else take care of you for a while can be a big part of that. For example, regular massage has a number of health benefits, including reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, menopause, stress and more.”
Beyond Bliss specializes in customized skin care treatments. Following a consultation by a licensed esthetician, clients receive a targeted and personalized facial.
“Our newest device is the Observ 520, a diagnostic tool that analyses deep into the layers of your skin to look for current and future conditions,” explains Sheona. “Your esthetician can then recommend additional treatments, like laser or a home care regimen.”
Beyond Bliss embraces new technology and innovations.
“We were the first spa in Powell River to offer Intense Pulsed Light [IPL] and laser services,” says Sheona. “You cannot beat the efficacy of laser for treatment and prevention of most signs of aging. It’s fantastic for skin conditions like acne, scarring and rosacea. We also have YAG and diode lasers for permanent hair removal.”
Microdermabrasion, microneedling, oxygen facial treatments, and radio frequency body contouring treatments are also available.
“The goal is for our clients to look and feel like the best version of themselves so they can carry themselves with confidence at every stage of life,” says Sheona.
In terms of products, Beyond Bliss is very selective about the lines it carries.
“We’ve partnered with Eminence Organic Skincare for over 15 years,” says Sheona. “They are a very environmentally conscious company, and through them we have planted almost 6,000 trees.
“Another retail partner we love is jane iredale makeup. It is a clean beauty line and many of their products have SPF factors, from foundation to light powder, so you can protect your skin while applying makeup. It’s perfect for a busy lifestyle.”
In the retail area, customers can find a variety of items to treat themselves or someone they love. From purses, candles, soaps and bath bombs, to unique fragrances and even natural body products that Sheona produces herself, there is something for everyone.
“One of our customers’ favourites – and mine – is my Lemon Sugar Vanilla body butter,” says Sheona. “It’s rich but not greasy, and it smells like freshly baked lemon loaf with vanilla drizzle!”
With the move to stage three of COVID-19 restrictions, Sheona is looking forward to welcoming people back into the space to browse, chat and shop.
“I feel like the lack of human connection has been really hard on people, and there is no better place to find some human caring and connection than a spa,” she says. “I am so grateful to my staff, who have been amazing through all the ups and downs of the pandemic. They really are the lifeblood of the business and I cannot thank them enough for their resilience and positive attitudes as we navigated through it all together. They are the best.”
