Townsite Heritage Society hands out awards in Powell River

Recipients acknowledged for their efforts in 2019

Every year the Townsite Heritage Society acknowledges homeowners and gardeners for the hard work and dedication that goes into the ongoing beautification and restoration of the heritage homes and gardens in Townsite, a National Historic District of Canada.

The awards are a time-honoured tradition from the early days, started by the Powell River Company to reward its worker tenants for extraordinary gardens and boulevards, and revived by Townsite Heritage Society in 1992, with the addition of awards for outstanding homes.

2019 was a stellar year for gardens thanks to a more balanced weather pattern throughout the growing season, and Townsite homes just keep getting more beautiful every year.

Townsite Heritage Society is grateful to the proud homeowners who participate, keeping the arts and crafts heritage homes looking young and alive. It is exciting to see so many restorations taking place, and difficult for the judges to make decisions.

Although your favourite garden or home may not have won an award this year, the whole community benefits from this gentle competition.
