Powell River resident Sandra Ciarniello recently (May 2) captured the video below of a bear cub separated from its mom and sibling on the hill between Townsite and Wildwood on Highway 101.
Mom showed concern at first and returned to the highway side of the barrier briefly, before leaving the youngster to figure it out on his or her own.
Eventually, with encouragement from its brother or sister, the cub was able to scale the concrete barrier, which must have seemed an insurmountable climb at first.
“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”
