Texada plays host to outdoor theatrical event

Caravan Stage Company brings tall ship to island for performances

Texada Island is serving as the backdrop for a unique theatrical spectacle this week.

Caravan Stage Company is presenting its show, Virtual Rogues, on August 2, 3 and 4 at Texada Island Boat Yard.

This show, which is set in 2055, focuses thematically on the ethos and ethics of our collective digital future, and combines music, theatre, circus and digtal projections. Aerial acrobats swing from an enormous old growth cedar tree, an albatross puppet graces the stage, singers move along a Highway of Extinction while a large digital deity looms on the screens and scrim that wrap the ship.

Since 1970, Caravan founders Adriana Kelder and Paul Kirby have been bringing theatre to communities across the world, first by horse-drawn wagon and now by tall ship, the Amara Zee. In addition to Texada, other stops on this summer's Salish Sea tour include Victoria, Sooke and Richmond.

Showtimes are 9:30 pm. Audience members are asked to bring their own chairs. Admission is on a pay-what-you-can basis.

BC Ferries is running a late service from Blubber Bay Terminal (11:30 pm) on Texada to Westview Terminal in Powell River on Thursday, August 4, to accommodate attendees of the show.
