Environment and Climate Change Canada, the provincial government of BC and all of the BC health authorities have issued a Smoky Skies bulletin at 12:23 pm, Thursday, May 18, including the northern Sunshine Coast.
From 100 Mile House all the way across the province, including the qathet region, this special type of public advisory warns the public about the rapidly changing nature of wildfire smoke. People with pre-existing health conditions such as asthma, respiratory infections, small children or anyone with sensitivities to wildfire smoke might have negative health effects.
The bulletin states that outdoor activity should be reduced, suggests drinking plenty of fluids and to use an indoor air filter if possible. Smoke is widespread in the Northern Interior of the province but is also affecting places such as Courtenay, the Southern Sunshine Coast and the Northern Sunshine Coast.
