Volunteer firefighter Eugene Zago was recently recognized for 35 years of service to Malaspina Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD).
According to a media release from qathet Regional District (qRD), Zago has been with MVFD since joining in 1985, and currently serves in the supervisory role of lieutenant. Normally, this service achievement would have been recognized at the annual MVFD firefighter appreciation night, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the department will be celebrating virtually.
The province awards the British Columbia Long Service Bar for 35 and 45 years of fire service. According to the release, the medal honours service persons’ commitment to critical, selfless service provision in their communities. The release states that qRD would like to thank Zago for 35 years of exemplary service and further stated the region is fortunate for the dedication Zago and volunteer firefighters continue to provide.
qRD operates four volunteer fire departments made up of a committed group of volunteers dedicated to helping protect the region’s communities. For more information, go to qathet.ca.
