For dancers, a year-end performance is an important milestone for students and their families, teachers and the community.
Laszlo Tamasik Dance Academy (LTDA) has had a successful year competing and training, and at last the dancers can feel proud that they made it through another year.
Two upcoming shows in Evergreen Theatre at Powell River Recreation Complex will showcase the academy’s students and close out the season.
On Saturday, May 27, Once Upon a Time, a journey through the land of childhood stories, will strictly feature ballet students, according to dance coach and LTDA artistic director Paige Anderson.
“The first half will be well-known nursery rhymes,” explained Anderson, “and the other half will be the story of Cinderella.”
The students range in age from as young as three years old to age 18; some being LTDA company dancers.
“Some of our older ballerinas will be on pointe-shoes,” said Anderson. “That will be exciting for the audience to see.”
The dance company hopes to draw the audience into a world of magic with classical music, fantastic costumes, great props and projected backdrops.
Next, on Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3, the company will showcase all other générés of dance taught at LTDA.
We Hope You Dance will feature hip-hop, lyrical, jazz, musical theatre and contemporary dancers of all levels, both competitive and non-competitive streams.
Tickets can be purchased at the Peak, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm, at Unit-F 4493 Avenue.
