PLANNED REOPENING: Powell River Public Library’s First Credit Union Community Room will have a collection of materials available to library patrons. Access to the library has been limited because of a flood that occurred in the facility.

Powell River Public Library (PRPL) will be expanding its service.

On April 26, the library will reopen for limited browsing and holds pickup in the First Credit Union Community Room via the Alberni Street door.

According to the PRPL website, holds are available for pickup from the holds locker in the foyer of the library as well.

At the pop-up library, patrons will be able to access a small collection of materials and holds as they are available. The Alberni entrance is accessible via stairs only, so if patrons need support picking up their materials, they can contact the library for options.

The pop-up library will be open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and Sundays from 1 to 5 pm.

The holds locker is available in the foyer from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 8:30 pm, Saturdays from 10 am to 7 pm, and Sundays from noon until 6 pm.

The website states that due dates have been extended to June 1 for most items. Restoration work in the library after the flood has left very little access to the collection and shelving.

“We have no place to put materials that return to the library so we are asking patrons to enjoy the items they have out for a little longer,” the website stated.

The virtual library continues to be open, offering programs, 24-hour access to eBooks, eAudio and virtual skill building through Mango Languages and LinkedIn Learning.

Patron can contact the library for more information at 604.485.4796 extension 0, or by email at [email protected].
