Powell River Hospice Society was provided $4,522.59 from the Tim Hortons annual smile cookie campaign.
Tim Hortons manager Mark Delos Santos said the store’s owner chose Powell River Hospice Society as recipients, wanting to allocate the money in the local health-care field. The cookie campaign took place from May 1 to 7.
Delos Santos said 100 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of the smile cookies was donated to Powell River Hospice Society. More than 300 cookies per day were sold in the community.
Powell River Hospice Society president Cathy Fisher said there was a great cadre of volunteers who came out to decorate the cookies for sale.
“We put the smiles on them,” said Fisher. “We’re thrilled with the donation. The community really stepped up and helped us out.”
Fisher said the society has yet to decide how the funds will be allocated and added that it does not receive any government funding to operate. Community donations and grants help the society with its important work.
“Our programs are expanding,” said Fisher. “We have grown a great deal in the last seven or eight years to bring services to the community.”
