SOMBRE RECOGNITION: On September 11, Powell River Fire Rescue observed the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Centre complex in New York City with a ceremony at the Westview fire hall to honour the victims of the attack, including the multitude of first responders who were killed or injured during the downing of the World Trade Centre buildings.
The United States flag was raised amid the Canada, BC and City of Powell River flags flying at half-mast.
A US flag was also displayed, recognizing the 347 fallen firefighters who were members of the International Association of Fire Fighters in New York City.
After a brief ceremony to recognize the sacrifices made, Powell River professional and auxiliary firefighters and family members gathered outside of Fire Rescue Station No. 1.
