Choral event concludes with gala concert at Powell River Recreation Complex

Hundreds of choral singers and performers descended upon on the qathet region from July 4 to July 8 to take part in mentorship, skill-building classes and public performances associated with International Choral Kathaumixw.

The biennial music festival not only provided amazing vocal experiences for audience members to hear, it was also a learning-ground for music students at Powell River Academy of Music, which was also the host of the event.

Kathaumixw, which was last held in 2018 due to COVID-19 cancellations, featured concerts in multiple locations, including Powell River Academy of Music's James Hall, Max Cameron Theatre at Brooks Secondary School, and Evergreen Theatre at Powell River Recreation Complex, which hosted the gala closing concert.

Saskatoon Children's Choir (Canada), conducted by Phoebe Voigts, won the Choir of the World at Kathaumixw Award.

Corona del Mar High School Madrigal Singers (USA), conducted by Andrew Ball, was presented with the Elmer Iseler Award for best performance of a Canadian Work.
