Early in September, murmurs were abound in the qathet community about changes coming to a local watering hole on Marine Avenue, Strikers Bar and Grill.
Persephone Brewing Company, a craft brewery located in Gibsons, BC has finalized its expansion into the qathet region and “announced the recent acquisition of Strikers Pub and Westview Bowling and Billiards,” according to a September 29 media release.
The Southern Sunshine Coast establishment has been operating since 2013, and is a B-certified Corporation; meaning their company is in-line with UN sustainability goals.
On September 9, Persephone hosted a beer and bowling event at Strikers Bar and Grill/Westview Bowling and Billiards, in order to offer the community a chance to become a shareholder in the growing company, according to shareholder and brewing better community coordinator, Zarah Gale. Strikers Bar and Grill is still operating and open, stated Gale, in an email, but “our team is hard at work planning to renovate and revitalize the pub and bowling alley. We want to create a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere."
According to the media release: “We look forward to collaborating with local businesses, organizations and residents to create a thriving hub for culture, entertainment, and, of course, exceptional craft food and beverages.”
Chief operations officer Sara Parsley has been with Persephone Brewing Company since its inception and has family roots in the qathet region.
“Persephone Brewing Company has long been a leader in crafting exceptional, beer, cider and hard seltzer and this expansion marks a new chapter for the Gibson's based company," the release stated. "By acquiring Strikers Pub and Westview Bowling and Billiards, we aim to provide residents and visitors with a unique and inviting space to build community and enjoy each other's company,” according to the media release.
