Seasons greetings, Powell River. I would like to express my gratitude for the privilege of serving as your mayor.
During my first two months on the job, I have made it a priority to meet all city staff and by the end of January hope to have done this. They are the backbone of our city.
I have also met with residents, business owners and community organizations, heard about their love of living in Powell River and what issues are most important to them - housing, taxes, roads and safety. I have also had the opportunity to work with council and while we have different priorities, I am confident that we will come together to provide effective leadership.
Our community is in a period of transition. What comes next is unclear. But 2023 will bring opportunities. My priorities will be to work with provincial and federal representatives to: attract new businesses to Powell River, including a purchaser of the Tis’kwat mill site; secure grants that will allow us to develop city land with residential and commercial spaces, including a spot where young people can meet and interact over games and art.
In January we will start the “Meeting the Mayor” gatherings, where I look forward to answering your questions and hearing your ideas and concerns.
May you have a wonderful festive season with your family and friends.
