qathet Art Centre is transitioning from having more than 70 qathet artists display their work on the walls to a solo show by painter Peter Gynd in February.
The walls of Powell River Public Library (PRPL) have also been in transition, with the recent installation of Mythinformation, an art exhibition envisioned by Theo Angell for PRPL. Patrons visiting the library will see sculptures made out of 35-millimetre film, wood and other recycled materials high up on the walls, surrounding the book carousels.
A statement from the artist says that: "Mythinformation embraces a multiplicity of themes, melding history, faux history, technology, societal critique and environmental consciousness, prompting viewers to think on the intricacies of our digital age as we live through the echoes of mythic times."
"I've added some more text and pictures into the mix by making a little zine to go with the show," said Angell. "Here we find related Mythinformation tangents and joint artificial intelligence (AI) created content."
Angell said the zines can be found at the front desk at PRPL.
"The exhibit incorporates a fanzine wherein we may ponder the legacy of glass beads and their digital descendants, the computer screen, as conduits shaping humanity's fate through the exchange of novelty items for genuine goods and opportunities,” explained Angell. “The ideas venture further, contemplating the essence of AI through cultural and historical lenses, contemplating figures like Thoth, Homer, Hypathia and Pythagoras as generative transformers."
