DISTRICT PRESENTATION: Pacific Region International Summer Music Association has developed a program for young people aimed to engage all students in the world of classical music.

Dutch-born artistic director of the Pacific Region International Summer Music Association (PRISMA), maestro Arthur Arnold, and recent PRISMA fellowship recipient Dr. Jeanette Scott opened the Wednesday, February 21, qathet School District (qSD) board meeting with an impassioned presentation about the PRISMA for Kids program.

Arnold and Scott are hoping to partner with qSD to bring music and the world of PRISMA to qathet students across the district. The program began in 2015 to celebrate 70 years of liberation of the Netherlands by Canadian Armed Forces.

The program has expanded in recent years, said Arnold, to include classroom visits from musicians, instructed orchestra rehearsal and evening concerts for district students.

"Because of the popularity with young people, the program is offering two concerts with visiting Cuore Piano Trio, March 6, at the Max Cameron Theatre," said Arnold.

Scott and Arnold also announced that students in qSD are invited to participate in a children's opera, titled: Brundibár,

at PRISMA Festival 2025: An Opera of Hope and History.

Arnold emphasized that the opera is a beacon of, "education, peace and resilience."

Arnold and Scott said students' feedback from past years of participation in their music program offerings has been overwhelmingly positive.
