JINGLE JOG: The Brooks Students for Change Club is getting ready for the 12th annual Jingle Jog in support of Powell River Action Centre Food Bank on Saturday, December 17. Community members can preregister at the Peak office for $10 per person or $20 per family, or at Brooks Secondary School the morning of the event.

The Brooks Students for Change Club is encouraging Powell River residents to participate in the 12th annual Jingle Jog on Saturday, December 17, proceeds from which support Powell River Action Centre Food Bank.

“It is a fantastic community event, and it’s for a good cause,” said Madi Belyea, one of the student organizers. “There are more families than ever using the food bank, and we want to support them in their work.”

The run and walk will take place at 10 am starting at Brooks Secondary School. There will be both a three-kilometre and a six-kilometre route for participants to run or walk. All the money raised and any food donations collected at the event will go to the food bank, which distributes food to individuals and families in need who live in the qathet region.

The student-run club does everything from making posters to taking registration and distributing water to participants.

“We’re looking forward to a great event,” said lead organizer Griffin Leach. “Registration is only $10 per person or $20 per family. We’ll also have prizes for the best-dressed participants, so come wearing your best Jingle Jog attire to enter!”

Students can preregister at the Brooks main office, and community members can register in person at the Peak office, Unit-F-4493 Marine Avenue, between 8 am and 4 pm weekdays. Participants can also register the day of the event starting at 9 am at Brooks, 5400 Marine Avenue.

“We are hoping to get even more people out this year than last year,” said Shea O’Donnell, another student organizer. “Eddie Charlton from PowTown Crossfit is bringing all his Saturday morning clients to the Jingle Jog, and we’d like to encourage all of Powell River to come out for a great event that supports a great cause.”
