Sadly, Raye Bergunder passed away October 21, 2022, in Port Alberni. She was born in Ontario on March 25, 1946.
Raye was predeceased by her husband Larry (2012), her father Leopold and her mother Cecile, three sisters Pauline, Claudette and Helen, brother Robert (Joan) and also sister-in-law Diane (Larry).
Raye is survived by her son Mike, daughter Dianne, stepchildren Rodney (Brenda), Angela and Janet, brother Norman (Lucette), brothers-in-law Ken (Debbie) and Jim (Eva), five grandchildren, and also nieces and nephews in BC and Ontario.
Raye worked at various jobs including the government of Whitehorse. Larry and Raye were married in January 1987. They enjoyed the outdoors and had a gold claim that they worked. They moved to Powell River in the early 1990s. Larry commuted to the mines in the north and Raye did foster care for many years. She had a generous heart and would give to those in need. She loved to cook and bake for others. She would make up to 20 pies for church functions or deliver desserts to PRACL.Her Mexican candy bars were quite famous and she would share them with people who were special to her. This was her special recipe and she would not give it away.
Raye’s faith was very important to her and she would share this with people she met. She loved her family, her friends and the community of believers at Westview Baptist Church.
We would like to thank Dr. Bonsor for her care of Raye through the many years and also Pastor Martin and Pastor Oskar for their visits and phone calls.
Raye has been cremated and a celebration of life will be held at Westview Baptist Church in the spring of 2023. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
