It is with sadness that we announce the passing of everyone’s favourite mom, June McEachren. She will be missed.
Born in Vancouver, BC, to Harold and Stella Hodson, the family soon settled in Port Alberni, BC. As a teenager, she worked in the telegraph office. She met and fell in love with Wally McEachren. They married and raised two boys.
In 1965, the family moved to Powell River, where Wally worked on what was then a “mega project.” The upgrades to the paper mill.
Leaving after two years, the family ended up in Coquitlam for a number of years. June and Wally moved back to Powell River to retire.
Mom was actively involved in a number of groups over the years. Women’s Institute (regular public market attendees will remember her lemon square fondly), Holy Cross Cemetery Society, TOPS, Pythian Sisters, Carpet Bowling and more. She was a skilled cook, baker, milliner, knitter, seamstress, Shillcraft rug-hooking and more. There was much she wasn’t able to do.
Ever smiling, with a sweet disposition, she helped whatever “strays” she came across, with kind words and assistance for those in need. She had a heart of a real Christian love for people. She was “Mom” to all who knew her.
Many thanks to the entire Rodonets family, Don and Vicki Anderson, Dar and Rik Revfem, the Westview Baptist Church congregation, and all those who have supported Graeme and Dolly during this difficult time.
A very special thank-you to Diane Van Dyke for being a constant companion to Mom, going on walks with her and generally being a support to Mom in her last years. Diane’s assistance has been invaluable. Thank you so much, Diane.
Thank you also to the EMTs, emergency room staff, doctors and fourth floor nurses. They all treated Mom like she was a VIP.
A celebration of life will be held sometime in the new year at Westview Baptist Church. Date and time to be decided.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the charity of your choice.
