In 1547, King Edward VI ascended to the throne of England at age nine following the death of his father Henry VIII at age 55.

In 1974, hockey legend Gordie Howe came out of retirement to play for Houston Aeros of the World Hockey Association.

In 2003, a pyrotechnics display set fire to the stage during a concert by rock group Great White at a Rhode Island nightclub, killing 100 people and injuring about 200 others.
