James McQuarrie submitted today’s featured photo, which features a flock of oyster catchers at sunrise. He snapped the shot earlier this month at Douglas Bay, south of Powell River.

On this day:
In 1958, at Empire Stadium in Vancouver, Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated Hamilton Tiger-Cats 35-28 to win the Grey Cup for the fourth time.

In 1969, The Beatles’ song “Something” reached number one on music charts.

In 1981, at age 43, movie star Natalie Wood drowned in a boating accident off the coast of California.

In 2001, musician George Harrison, a former member of The Beatles, died in Los Angeles at the age of 58.
