Happy Saturday!

Vanessa Bjerreskov snapped today’s featured image at a recent Jackson Cup soccer match between Powell River Villa and Cowichan FC. Niko Cristante jumped to get the header, with teammates Ori Fisher behind him and Russell Pielle and Richard “Chico” Murphy looking on.

The two clubs meet again today (Saturday, March 4) for the final Villa game of the Vancouver Island Soccer League season. Villa leads Cowichan by one point in the standings and needs a win (three points) to ensure avoiding relegation from Division 1 to Division 2 (Cowichan has one more game to play after this weekend).

It is also fan appreciation day at Timberlane Park, with free hot chocolate and coffee at the concession, door prizes and a presentation at halftime. Tickets are $5 each; kickoff is at 1:30 pm.

To submit a picture for Photo of the Day consideration, send the full size original via email to [email protected] with the subject line “Photo of the Day.” Remember to include where and when you took the picture, what it is and your name (we want to give you credit).
