On this day:
In 1913, British suffragette Emily Davison entered the racetrack during the Epsom Derby and moved in front of King George V's horse, which struck her; she died four days later and became a martyr to the cause of women’s suffrage.

In 1979, Flora MacDonald became the first woman to be appointed Canada’s secretary of state for external affairs.

Today’s weather:
Saturday’s forecast is cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers and a high of 17 degrees Celsius. Rain is expected in the evening, with a low of 12 degrees Celsius.
