On Saturday, June 24, the ALS Society of BC held its Move to Cure ALS - Powell River fundraising event at Willingdon Beach Park.

Move to Cure ALS is the annual signature fundraising event for the ALS Society of British Columbia, which brings together family and friends in support of ALS during the month of June at various locations around BC and Yukon.

Sixty-three participants attended the first annual Move to Cure ALS in Powell River. After strolling along the waterway, the "Movers" returned to enjoy muffins and juice. Geri Anderson, the event's coordinator, was thrilled with the turnout, and the recent front page story published in the Peak.

"I thought there would be fewer than 15 people, but 63 showed up last Saturday," said Anderson. "We raised a total of $7,712, far exceeding my goal of $2,000. What a day it was!"

Even though it has ended, for anyone who would like to contribute, donations are still being accepted at events.alsbc.ca/powellrivermove2023.

ALS Society of BC's goal is to end ALS through creating a world-class ALS Centre at UBC. 100 per cent net of the proceeds to the ALS Society will remain in BC to support patient services programs (60 per cent) and research (40 percent) through PROJECT HOPE.
