IMPORTANT MONEY: Source Club board chair Maggie Hathaway received a $40,000 cheque from Pacific Coastal Airlines to help fund operations. The donation was raised from the airline’s annual golf tournament.

Pacific Coastal Airlines has donated $40,000 to the Source Club from proceeds raised from the airline’s annual golf tournament.

Source Club board chair Maggie Hathaway received a cheque at the Pacific Coastal Airlines mixer held in the qathet region on June 19.

“It was the result of the Pacific Coastal golf tournament, which is becoming the event to be at in the Lower Mainland,” said Hathaway. “It is so well done. Pacific Coastal Airlines is awesome.

“Pacific Coastal donated to three organizations, but the Source Club is why the tournament started. We’ve been the steady recipient and the others change periodically. It’s been an annual donation to the Source Club for 30 years. All the money we receive at the Source Club is spent in Powell River.”

She said this year’s monetary donation will go toward activities such as camping trips, Christmas parties and other extracurricular activities not covered in the organization’s contract with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).

“This donation makes a huge difference for the Source Club,” said Hathaway. “We try not to get too dependent because it’s a donation, but we have relied on those donations in past for extracurricular activities for the members.”

Hathaway described the Source Club as an outlet for people living with mental illness to get together in a safe environment. She said there is a hot lunch program at the club and those attending are encouraged to get out and socialize with other members. She said the club has 20 to 25 people dropping into the clubhouse on a daily basis.

The Source Club is contracted with Vancouver Coastal Health so the staff at the centre are employees of VCH. Hathaway said they provide the programming for those attending the club.
