The City of Vancouver says locals should brace for commute impacts during Round Two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Vancouver Canucks.
The Canucks will host the Edmonton Oilers in Game One on Wednesday, May 8, to a sold-out crowd at Rogers Arena.
"Bring on the white towels!" the city exclaims in a news release.
The city says it is aware of high interest in places for people to come together and cheer the Canucks on against the Edmonton Oilers. So far, no plans for Vancouver to host public gatherings or watch parties have been shared. However, today the city says it is "exploring potential public viewing opportunities" and hopes to have an update "in the coming week."
"Round 2, here we go! It’s been super exciting watching our home team battle through Round 1 and the fans have been amazing at keeping the energy going,” said Mayor Ken Sim in the media release.
“Having the playoffs in Vancouver is important on so many levels and we are so proud of everyone putting in the effort to make this a fun, family-friendly experience for everyone. Let’s keep it up!”
The city has also provided some tips to help people move around the city during the game day excitement.
Traffic impacts
The city says locals should expect traffic disruptions due to various road closures. People will be driving in and out of the city on game days.
Instead of driving, people should use transit, walk, or bike into town on game days. They should also plan ahead and allow for extra travel time, particularly near Rogers Arena.
For cyclists, Mobi by Rogers will ensure bike and dock availability near the Rogers Arena at the Dunsmuir & Beatty, Keefer & Abbott, Carrall & Seawall, and Expo & Carrall stations on game days.

- Walk, bike, roll, or take transit whenever possible.
- Give yourself plenty of time to get where you need to go.
- Stay ahead of road closures with Vancouver's current road closures.
- Follow all detours and abide by “No Parking” signs in the area.
- Don’t let waste become litter. Dispose of your waste in the nearest garbage or recycling bin or take it home with you.
- Be considerate of the community and keep noise to a minimum when leaving games.
