SOMBRE OCCASION: On Saturday, January 25, families of people lost to substance use were photographed above Willingdon Beach as part of a campaign by Moms Stop the Harm, which has organized similar photographs in places such as Kelowna and Vancouver.
All those in the photograph dressed in black, held white crosses and had photographs of their loved ones.
The photograph is designed to humanize those lost to substance use and to connect with others who have suffered a loss.
Prior to the photograph, a prayer was spoken and there was an Indigenous song to commemorate those lost to substance use.
