A man charged with manslaughter with a firearm in the death of another man at a Vancouver Downtown Eastside hotel has pleaded guilty and is due to be sentenced in November.
Ba Huy Tran, 28, was charged in connection with the shooting death of Michael Bailey, 40, inside the London Hotel at 208 East Georgia St. July 20, 2021.
The Vancouver Police Department said both suspects fled the area. Investigators believed the incident was targeted.
Three weeks later, Tran of Vancouver was charged.
He appeared before Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Ellen Gordon Sept. 29 as sentencing was set for Oct. 4. That has now been set for Nov. 1.
Joseph Mason, also of Vancouver, was charged with one count of second-degree murder.
Both initially pleaded not guilty and had elected a B.C. Supreme Court judge and jury trial.
Tran, however, changed his plea and pleaded guilty June 9.
Crown prosecutor Brendan McCabe KC told the court the other case is proceeding in B.C. Supreme Court.
Mason is due to be sentenced Dec. 14 in B.C. Supreme Court.
Preliminary inquiries are held to determine if enough evidence exists to go to trial. They are covered by a publication ban in order not to taint a potential jury pool.
