LANGLEY — Police in Metro Vancouver say they're treating the death of a person inside a burned home as suspicious and homicide investigators have taken the case.

Langley RCMP say in a statement they received a report of a structure fire near the intersection of 56 Avenue and Glover Road at about 7:24 a.m. on Friday.

They say a body was found inside the residence once the flames were extinguished and authorities have not yet confirmed how the person died.

Sgt. Zynal Sharoom says in the statement that police are treating the death as suspicious "until deemed otherwise" and the Mounties' Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has assumed conduct of the investigation.

Police say officers were canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance video.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the RCMP.
