Couple exchanges vows at Port Moody hospital before Christmas

One of Victoria Johnson's last wishes was to marry her high school sweetheart.

A woman nearing the end of her life at Port Moody’s Eagle Ridge Hospital wed her high school sweetheart before Christmas.

Victoria Johnson, a longtime Tri-City resident, exchanged vows with her love, Gordon, on Dec. 21 in the hospital chapel.

Doctors and nurses at the Guildford Way institution, as well as officials from the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation (ERHF), helped to make the day special for the newlyweds.

Among those who offered their services free of charge included:

  • photographer Jay Shaw
  • hairstylist Joy Tesch of Filomena Spa
  • Jean Gettle of Flower Jeanie
  • Casa Del Pane Bakery & Deli

Johnson’s young daughter, as well as family members, witnessed the marriage ceremony.

“We are so grateful to have been able to help make Victoria and Gordon’s wedding day a reality,” said foundation executive director, Kristina Chung, in a news release.

“It’s truly heartwarming to see local businesses and volunteers come together for such a special cause, especially during the holiday season. These are businesses we’ve had the pleasure of working with for years and their generosity in donating their time and services speaks volumes about the spirit of our Tri-City community. The care and compassion shown by the staff at Eagle Ridge Hospital made this an unforgettable day.”

Started in 1982, the hospital foundation serves the residents in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra.

Its current fundraising campaign calls for $175,000 by Dec. 31, 2024, to meet priorities.
