UPPER SACKVILLE, N.B. — RCMP say they are investigating a head-on collision in southeastern New Brunswick that left one person dead.

They say officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision on Route 940 in Upper Sackville on Friday around 11:30 a.m.

The Mounties say they believe the collision happened when a vehicle, travelling north, crossed the centre line and hit another vehicle going south.

They say the driver – and only occupant – of the first vehicle, a 77-year-old man, died at the scene from his injuries.

The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were taken to hospital with what police say are believed to be minor injuries.

An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the driver's exact cause of death and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
