COOK'S COVE — Police in Nova Scotia say they are searching for a child who fell into the water in Cook's Cove, located on the eastern side of the province.

A news release says Guysborough County RCMP responded to reports of a child falling into the water Thursday afternoon.

It says the child was fishing with a man and another child.

The release says the man jumped into the water immediately after the child fell but wasn't able to rescue them.

Police say they are joined in the search for the child by a number of agencies, including Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and Civil Air search and Rescue Association.

The age and gender of the child were not given, and police are asking people to avoid the area while the search continues.
