Traffic lights at Joyce Avenue and Glacier Street in Powell River have been intentionally left in flash mode. The situation is a matter of technical difficulties with the equipment.
According to City of Powell River director of infrastructure Tor Birtig, the lights at Joyce and Glacier think there is a car on the loop all of the time, which is why the city will swap out a part in the system.
The system reacts when a car is waiting at the intersection for the light to change.
Birtig said the repairs will be completed the week of February 25. He added that there are connectivity issues with wires embedded in the road and additional work has to be done on all of the city’s remaining lights at four intersections.
