Seafood is on the menu in Lund during its annual Shellfish Festival, May 24 and 25. Preparing all appetites is the Chowder Challenge, Friday, May 23.
Powell River’s finest restaurants go cauldron to cauldron in a battle of taste to produce their coveted chowder creation. The most deserving pot will be chosen by the public and the winning restaurant presented with the Chowder Challenge Trophy.
People wishing to attend can purchase tickets for $18 through Powell River Visitor Information Centre and at SunLund By-The-Sea Campground, then head over to Lund Community Centre for 6 pm. Tickets include a taste of each restaurant’s chowder, side salad, prawns, bread, dessert and refreshments. A cash oyster bar will be on site, as well as a cash bar serving wine and Townsite Brewing beer. Gluten-free chowder, bread and dessert will be available, plus organic salad greens and dressings.
“The tickets will be gone in the blink of an eye for this event,” said Tracey Ellis, visitor services manager for Tourism Powell River.
The Chowder Challenge kicks off a weekend of festival fun along Lund’s harbour front. There will be cooking demonstrations, live music, tours, crafts, art displays and an abundance of seafood to eat on the spot or take home in bulk, as well as much more.
Details on the whole zero-waste weekend are available online. BC Transit is providing a $2 shuttle to and from Lund throughout the festivities and the schedule is available on the festival website. For further information, readers can contact Ellis at 604.485.4701.
